The Westside Breakers under 13 white team won the girls U13 Silver flight of the South Bay Force Odyssey Cup tournament on December 13-14 weekend. The Breakers lost their opening game by a score of 2-0 to host South Bay Blue. On Saturday afternoon, they played another Westside area team, the Galaxy Wildcats, and were unable to score (0-0 tie) after dominating play the entire game and missing a penalty kick. This set up a critical game for the Breakers early Sunday morning against another local Westside team, the Galaxy Devil-Cats, as the Breakers had to win to get to the final for a rematch against South Bay Blue. The Breakers got off to a fast start and scored the only goal of the game in the first half and then held strong defensively in the second half to win 1-0.
That win secured the Breakers a place in the final and gave them an opportunity for a rematch of the first game against South Bay Blue. The U13 Breakers battled hard and were determined to score first. The were rewarded with a well earned goal in the run of play late in the first half. In the second half, the Breakers went for the second goal and scored early off a corrner kick. The defense, which gave up only the two goals all tournament (in the first game) then held strong to shut out the host team and bring home the first place medals. Congratulations ladies!
