Breakers Combined U16/17 Team Makes First Appearance in the Fabled Texas Shootout
Known as one of the top 5 college recruiting events in the country, the tournament capped an enormously successful Spring season for the older teams in the club who from U15-17 have concentrated heavily on gaining entry into the best college showcase events in and outside of California to cement the club as the premier college prep organization for female athletes on the Westside.

Because the event coincides with many of our local schools’ final exams the Breakers U16 and U17 teams, coached by Jason Kelly combined to send a very competitive squad to Texas. Traveling with the team was the club’s Technical Director Mike Page who utilized his vast connections with college coaches around the country to promote and support our student-athletes.

The tournament was everything and more than the Breakers had dreamed of. The Breakers coaches had never seen so many college coaches present at a showcase and each game we played had a large number of coaches watching our players and asking for their roster information.

Facing the top teams from states such as Alabama, Oklahoma and Washington the Breakers went toe-to-toe with some of the best players in the country and came home with a credible record of two ties and a close loss. All three games were there for the taking but opportunities to score and prevent scores have to be executed so precisely at this level that the games remained very tight to the last second of every hot and energy sapping game.

The players and parents from two Breaker teams were thrown together at the last moment but bonded quickly on the plane, in the hotel and at team meals to make the experience as valuable off the field as it was on. The coaches hope that the performance of this squad in 2009 will ensure that attendance at this tournament becomes an annual tradition for our older teams to continue our aim to be considered one of the top female soccer clubs and college prep programs in the country.
