The Breakers Mission

     The club’s mission is the following: (1) To teach young female athletes, primarily from the Westside of Los Angeles, the principles and skills necessary to grow and develop as quality individuals, students and soccer players; (2) to emphasize good sportsmanship, teamwork and a love for the game of soccer, and (3) enable them to grow and develop as much as their own desire, commitment and effort may take them.

Why Tryout for the Breakers?

• All youth soccer clubs and coaches talk about "player development" but the Breakers are the only girls soccer club on the Westside with an age specific player developmental plan and at least one team at every age group from U9 through U19.  We have years of experience developing players and teams from the younger ages through high school graduation and many have gone on to play at the collegiate level. 

• Year in and year out, the Breakers consistently attract the vast majority of the best youth players from the Westside at every age group.

• The Breakers have the best practice field space of any club on the Westside.  This allows us to have the same practice days, times and location for the entire year which makes it easy for our families to organize their schedules.   Each team in our club has access to full size goals and mini goals at every training session.  In addition, our practice field was completely renovated in July 2010 with natural Tifway 419 bermuda sod and is not the best natural grass field on the Westside.

• The Breakers have the most experienced, qualified and proven group of professional coaches of any club on the Westside.  The Breakers staff includes two coaches who have each taken girls teams to the Premier level, a CIF Division 1 high school coach of the year, one college and one junior college level coach.  There are no parent coaches in our club.

• In the past 7 seven years, we have had 33 former Breakers go on to play college soccer including some at top division 1 schools such as UCLA, Notre Dame, Stanford and Santa Clara.  In addition, 9 of our players have also been selected to Southern California Olympic Development (ODP) teams.

• We have a track record of improving our teams and moving them up the competitive ladder of Coast Soccer League.  This Fall, our three oldest teams for next season (U16, U17 and U19) will all be bracketed in the Gold level.   

• Our club prides itself on being supremely organized both on and off the field.  We have a club Technical Director who manages the coaching staff as well as a Club Administrator that trains all of our team managers and oversees the administration of the club so things run smoothly and efficiently.

• We offer assistance and expertise to all of our older players in the college soccer recruiting process.  Our club technical director and some of our coaches have outstanding contacts with college soccer coaches and programs and our older teams often participate in college showcase tournaments.  This past season, our older teams competed in the Pleasonton Rage College Showcase, Nomads College Showcase, the Toyota College Showcase and a combined team participated in the Texas Shootout College Showcase in Houston, TX with over 300 college coaches in attendance.

 Club History

      The Westside Breakers Soccer Club was founded in 1998 as an all-girls soccer club by parents of players primarily from the Culver City and Pacific Palisades AYSO regions.  The Club began that year with just three younger teams playing in the prestigious Coast Soccer League (CSL).  In 2001, the club hired long-time Westside resident, player and coach, Mike Page, to serve as the Technical Director of the Breakers.  Mike, a former director of player administration for Major League Soccer who received his USSF "A" coaching license in 1999, worked closely with then club president, Michael Segal, to create a professional and well organized club both on and off the field.  With the input and assistance of many dedicated parents in the Breakers, the club leadership focused their efforts on finding quality field space, recruiting the best young players in the area and hiring experienced and professional coaches to carry out the club’s player development plan.  The results have been extraordinary as the Breakers have inarguably become the preeminent girls soccer club on the Westside area of Los Angeles.  The club currently has 15 teams ranging in age from under 9 to 19 for the 2006-07 season.

 Club Accomplishments

     The club has had many accomplishments in its short history.  One of our proudest moments came in 2007 when one of our former players, Ali Riley, started and played for the full New Zealand Women’s National Team in a match against the United States (ranked #1 in the World) on August 12, 2007.  Ali also started and played all three first round games for New Zealand in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China.  Ali was also a member of the Stanford University women’s soccer team (2009 NCAA finalist), played for the 2009 W-League Champion, Pali Blues and is now the starting left fullback for the FC Pride Gold (Bay Area) of the Women's Professional Soccer League. 

     In the Spring of 2006, the Breakers Girls U19 white team won the CYSA State Cup tournament and were featured on the cover of the May issue of the Cal South Soccer Magazine.

In the past 8 years, the Breakers have had two (2) teams qualify to play in the CSL Premier League which is the most competive youth soccer league in the United States and the pinnacle of youth soccer in Southern California.  Prior to those teams qualifying, only one other Westside area girls team in the history of club soccer on the Westside has qualified for the CSL Premier League.  In addition, the 2005 U19 Breakers team was denied admission to Premier when the bracket was reduced to 8 teams from 12 but they went on to win the CSL Gold division undefeated with a 12-0-0 league record.  In addition to their league championship, the 2005-06 Girls U19 Breakers were also crowned champions of the prestigious 2006 Nomads College Showcase in San Diego (see above photo). 

Each year, the club has over 70 players who make their high school varsity teams including over 50 players for the strongest programs in the area such as Harvard-Westlake, Marymount, Marlborough, Santa Monica, Notre Dame Academy, Brentwood and Palisades.  Many of our players make their varsity high school teams in their first year as freshman.

Finally, the Breakers have had 33 of our former players go on to play college soccer including some at top division I college programs such as UCLA, Notre Dame, Stanford and Santa Clara.
